Yes it is and I once wondered about being a forensic botanist. Don’t really think I have the stomach for that type of work though…..

      Hey tomtomjelly.

Yes, certainly – my mum said, if she’d had the opportunity to do science at school (girls were not encouraged to do so at all when she went to school – so I really appreciate that I was!) then she’d have liked to be in forensic science. She really loves murder mysteries!

Also a friend of mine is doing forensics and law.

I think it’s another important application of biology and genetics, to try to help bring people justice when crimes have been committed, or at least peace of mind.

Like most science subjects, it’s over-glamourised on TV! But I still find it interesting, yes.

hello wobbly-drum man. Yes definitely. Presume you mean real CSI-type stuff. I’ve seen the autopsy room (dissection of the dead body to find cause of disease) first hand quite a few times and I have to say it is absolutely amazing. This kind of information is very useful in normal medical cases as well as criminal ones and part of me thinks it’s a shame we don’t do more autopsies (post-mortems). I can totally understand why people aren’t keen on it though. It’s not something you think about in life and when you’ve just lost someone you love you don’t really want to think about them being dissected so it’s not an easy thing to consent to.

      Hi tomtomjelly,

Hate to say this, but not really! But I’m sure some people find messing around with body fluids and bugs fascinating…
