Hi cdtg – an interesting question! As the Royal Navy’s primary role is to defend our waters and to assist other nations too, we do still have to send out ships and helicopters to support those activities.
That said, we have tried to design our equipment and operate our equipment in an environmentally considerate manner eg our new Type 45 Destroyers are 3 times more fuel efficient than our previous Destroyers (check out Rolls Royce’s web-site as they made the engines).
We also try to use less resources to get the job done which has a mutually beneficial effect on the environment:).
