      Hi sailingkid,

I’ve actually answered this elsewhere and I can try to link back to it a bit later if I find it.

Cancer is actually lots of different diseases.
It depends where it is in the body, what caused it, what the genetic changes in the cancer cells are… lots of things.

Also, we’re already good at curing some kinds of cancer. Some of the leukaemias, breast cancers, skin cancers – not all of them are a death sentence any more.
Treatment effectiveness varies from cancer type to cancer type and also person to person.

We’re always working to develop better treatments and successes keep coming – many people know someone who has lived through cancer now and that’s encouraging.

I’m not sure it will ever go away completely; we all die of something, and cancer is often a disease of old age.
But it is exciting to see how the field keeps advancing and how people are more and more able to overcome cancer.
