Hey coliflower, this is a very good question.

Cancer charities work on both aspects; both treatment and prevention.
My work specifically is more about the treatment aspect – because we work on blood vessels, the current best application of blood-vessel-blocking treatments is, for example, after surgery.

So someone has a tumour, they have it removed by the surgeons, then anti-blood-vessel drugs can be given to try to stop re-growth of vessels into re-growing tumours, hopefully meaning they will be less aggressive and easier to treat further.
These kinds of drugs can also help in the delivery of tumour cell-killing drugs (chemotherapy).

In a more personal way, I try to relay information I am aware of that can help people to live healthily and reduce their risk of developing cancer someday.
For example, the obvious ones like not smoking, having a good diet, keeping fit, etc.

Cancer Research UK works hard to inform the public about risks and ways people can change their lives to reduce cancer risk. I’d really like to keep working on this in the future.
