Gravity is the force that all objects exert on each other. The bigger the object the more gravity it has, but the further away you are, the weaker it feels. The earth is really big and heavy, so everything nearby (like on it’s surface) is pulled towards it. So tables stay on the floor. We still don’t really understand exactly how gravity works though, or why objects pull towards each other, but it’s obviously really important and has kept lots of very clever physicists busy for a long time.
