• Question: What is your favourite animal?

      Tough question! My favourite animal is usually the animal I am studying at the time, as you become completely immersed in learning all about that animal. Based on this, my current favourite animal is the pine marten. They are related to otters and weasels, but are very fluffy and live in trees. They are very rare in England but I have been involved in a project to re-introduce them to the Forest of Dean in Gloucester and am helping monitor the new pine marten population. They can be very shy and secretive so can be difficult to capture on camera traps – but I like the challenge!

      (P.S. Some of my other favourite animals include leopards, elephants, brown bears, otters and pangolins – I have a long list!)

    Just like Sian, my favourite animal is the one I am studying at the moment, as I got to explore every aspect of its behaviour and biology, which makes reading about it or observe it in the wild very interesting! This animal is the impala, an antelope species that is observed in most nature reserves across Africa, but that people don’t necessarily notice much when going on safari there as there are so many antelopes around!

    Males have very beautiful horns that they use to defend their territories, and the females are a little smaller and have the cutest face ever (in my – very biased – opinion). I find them very interesting because they adapt very well to different environments and can co-habit with a lot of other antelope species (as well as with zebras, buffalos, giraffes, rhinos). It is a species that has been around in Africa for over 7 million years, so it shows that they can adapt very well to changes in their environments and in climate!

    Apart from those, I am also a huge fan of pandas, because they are cute and have very fascinating behaviours 🙂

    Hey Dexter, I love horses
