The short answer is that playing games makes learning things a lot more fun than just trying to memorize them from a book.

I love playing board games myself, and I have found that playing games is generally a good way of getting people engaged with something.

So if I make a science-themed board or card game which can be played in schools, scientific events, or even at home, and it teaches the players (you!) something new and interesting about science, I will have reached exactly the goal I wanted to get to. It means you learned something new, and you had so much fun while learning it that you didn’t even think it was any effort.
