      Depends what type of oil – cooking oil is most often extracted from plants or seeds, such as sunflower oil.

      Oil, the black stuff that is refined into petrol, for example, is made of tiny animals and plants, called plankton, that lived on Earth millions of years ago, and were turned into oil due to high temperature and pressure.
