      Medicines contain chemicals that react with various things inside our body – they may activate cells of the immune system to help our bodies fight disease, they may activate something inside cells that tell them to make substances that combat whatever is making us sick.

      There are many ways in which they can act, but the basic idea is they are always made of chemicals! They also take a very long time to research because we need to make sure that they are safe for humans, and that they actually work the way we wanted them to!
