There must be quite a lot of folk remedies for hiccups – some of my favourites include drinking water, or drinking water with sugar and drinking it while holding your nose. Or holding your breath for several minutes. Or, we have a saying in Romania, where I come from, that you hiccup because someone is thinking of you – so if you think of them too, your hiccups will go away! That last one is not based on any science of course but it is nonetheless freaky when it actually works!
