It’s all got to do with air currents and storms!
When a large amount of hot air meets a large amount of cold air, it creates disturbances in the atmosphere as hot air is trying to move upwards, displacing the cold air downwards, creating a spiral also known as a funnel. This funnel can become stronger and the forces that cause it to spin can also cause it to touch down onto the ground, when it becomes known as a tornado.
