  Baking soda is an alkali and vinegar is an acid – when these are mixed together they create an unstable substance called carbonic acid, which causes a big “fizz” when it breaks down into water and carbon dioxide. It’s a fun experiment to have a go at, but make sure you clean up afterwards!
