• Question: If your work is funded by EDF why do you need the money?????

      Well, what happens is that EDF spend money on research and they give quite a lot of money to various departments at Universities around the country. These departments will have scientists, like me doing research for them. It’s important for them to do the research because if they understand more science behind the graphite in a reactor, the safer they can make the reactors.
      But I only get a little bit of money to do my research, so I’m far from rich and couldn’t afford to just give a school some money to promote science and communication. The money from this competition I would give it to a local school to help promote science and get students to see how cool it can be. I’m using this competition as a chance to communicate with young students and have the chance to get some money to put towards a good cause. I hope that’s answered your question 🙂
