  As a post-doc it is more than the median wage, even for London. You can live comfortably, but it is by no means a fortune. To be honest, the amount I am paid would not be one of my complaints, but I do feel that a lot of people are over-paid for doing work that is not really that useful to society, and this distorts things a lot.
