      I’ve gotta say my answer is pretty speculative, but I would imagine that they can’t be 100% efficient (assuming they’re vaguely biological in nature) and would have to excrete something. I’ve got a niggling feeling that this was also the E in the acronym MRS NERG which biologists use to decide if something does constitute a life form or (at least at GCSE level). So I guess it’s a yes, assuming they are biologically alive.
