My area is not sleep so I only have basic knowledge levels but the brain is active when we sleep. We move through a series of sleep stages and a dream stage, and it is argued that the function of the stages/sleep is for restoration, memory consolidation, for example. I’m not entirely sure why people sleepwalk.

I don’t know exactly! It’s thought that there might be genetic links, and stress can be a trigger. Some medications might be linked to it too.
