Going to university is a really exciting but daunting experience. All students will be looking for something different and will thrive in different environments and the rankings aren’t sensitive to these wider factors. Some students want to be able to study from home, some look for a busy city, whereas others feel more comfortable in a smaller campus outside of a city. You may be really clear in your career aspirations and there may be a university psychology department that aligns more strongly with that with a lot of expertise in the area of psychology that you love. I think the most important thing is to find the right fit for you and looking at lots of universities will help with that. Some of the questions outside the metrics you might want to ask include:
      – can I picture myself here?
      – does it feel a friendly/supportive environment?
      – how much support is there if I find things challenging?
      – are there options for postgraduate study or career support?

It is really difficult to assess which is “better” because it really depends on the person, what their interests are, and what they want to get out of the whole university experience. When thinking about getting a job in psychology after your degree, I would say that where you did your degree is less important than the grade you achieve at the end. So consider what it is that you want and need from the university experience – Hannah has made some great suggestions!
