My favourite part of being a psychologist is how fun it is to understand why people behave the way the behave. Sometimes when you’re mad at someone for something, it makes you less mad because you know there is always a reason why someone is acting that way.

I love the variety of the job. You get the opportunity to be involved in projects looking at completely different things, so you’re always learning about new areas within psychology. I also enjoy that each day can be different, some days you will be conducting experiments, other days analysing the results, going to conferences to present your work.

I love how everyday can be totally different to the last. I love that there are so many avenues to research and psychology that one can take, and that you can create some super exciting research!

Even though I can’t read anyone’s mind (yet…..) I do think being a psychologist has helped me learn how people think and why they might feel the way they feel or do the things they do. All of this helps me understand people a bit better and see the world in interesting ways.

The best way to describe it is if I were in a slightly dim room and it was fine, I could see enough to get by and move around. But then suddenly someone gives me night vision goggles and I can see all sort of things that weren’t there before. The dim room is okay, and I was happy in it. But the night vision goggles made everything cooler.

Working with people and hearing their stories. In the work I do, these can be quite emotionally difficult stories for the individuals and be quite exhausting for them as they have a brain injury. I feel very privileged that they are willing to share their time and their stories with me.
