I think that in today’s society people are becoming increasingly connected, so we’re always interacting with people in some way. I think this makes it really important for us to be able to understand each other and why we behave in certain ways as it can make the world a kinder place!
In a more career focused answer – you learn so many transferrable skills by studying psychology that you can do almost anything with a psychology background! So it’s a great subject to choose if you want to keep lots of doors open 😊
Ashleigh’s already given some really good reasons, but I’d also like to add the idea of understanding yourself (as well as other people). Understanding your own personality traits, and how they interact with different situations can be useful. So can knowing about cognitive biases you might have (that might affect your decision-making), or how your brain learns and makes connections.
You learn lots of different skills – essay writing, statistics, maybe some coding, scientific method, communicating with participants, etc etc. But also I just think its a very interesting topic, and it’s good to be able to understand yourself and others better.
