Both descriptive statistics and inferential statistics are used when doing quantitative research. Psychologists also do qualitative research though where focus groups, thematic analysis or questionnaires may be used, for example.
I use statistics. I ussually use a statistical software to run my data analysis such as correlational data. I most frequently use and run a mediation analysis via structural equation model to answer my specific research questions

A lot of the maths can be done for you in programs like SPSS or Jamovi, but it’s great if you can understand the concept behind what it’s doing!
