I originally wanted to become a historian! I decided to take psychology at A Level and ended up really enjoying the course. I liked that you are able to understand your brain, your behaviour, yourself and the people around you better from studying psychology! After enjoying it at A Level, I decided to take it for my undergraduate degree, and just wanted to continue studying it from there.
When I was growing up, I was really interested in the choices people made. So for example, why did the Twin Towers attack happen, or the 7/7 bombing. What made people decide to do that? The other thing that interested me, was people’s responses to events. How could 2 people go through the same event, and have 2 completely different responses to it? These questions always fascinated me, so I went into Psychology to find out!
When I visited my college in preparation for A Levels, I just happened to go in the room where they were advertising A Level Psychology. I asked several questions and really liked what I heard. From that point, I really wanted to study it.
I always love this question because I like to see the answers from the other psychologists and how they got into psychology 😊
I watched a lot of crime/police shows (like Criminal Minds) when I was growing up which gave me a general interest in human behaviour and why some people behave in certain ways.
I read a lot of library books in my teens and some of those led me to be interested in taking A-level Psychology. Also, the “Brain and Mind” unit I did during GCSE Biology.
