• Question: You mentioned your first Job was working with GP's to improve health care services but mentioned you interview people for the GP as they don't have specialist training so if you had the power to chnage this how would you go about giving GPs some sort of specialist mental health training, in which you said they are lacking in?

Hi Emily, that’s a great question! Unfortunately it’s not a straight forward problem. Research has shown that sending GPs on specialist mental health training shows only minor improvements, and they don’t tend to last long. I think potentially introducing GPs to their local psychiatrists and allowing them to develop working relationships so they can help each other might be one solution. But I am not a GP, so I’m unsure what the best way is – so it’s best to ask the people who it applies to! So one of my research studies is to interview GPs and asking them what would help them most – they are the experts!
