Very good question, Megan! So, there are two main reasons. First, the UK is assessed as one of the top countries concerning LGBT rights in Europe – their position have been falling during the past years, though. Second, the UK is reforming the Gender Recognition Act, which guarantees identity rights for trans people (my research focus). So, it is important for my research to analyse a process in development – I could learn useful things to be applied in other countries.
