This is a really nice question – my role model is my old karate instructor and his wife. They are the best people I have ever met, inspire me, encourage me and help pick me up after a failure. They were also my best man and witness at my wedding. I couldn’t have got where I am without them.

Dr John Grohol, the founder of Psych Central. I want to follow his footsteps of making psychology accessible to the wider public. His website gets around 2 million visits each month – that’s 2 million people whom he managed to show the beauty of psychology, every single month.

My teachers in University! I wasn’t too sure what I wanted to do when I first started – I wanted to be a counselor but my interests changed and I wasn’t sure what I could do with that change at first. But then I saw how passionate and excited my teachers were, they were inspiring new students every day and coming up with brilliant new research and it really encouraged me to want to be like them

I don’t have a specific role model as such. But I was really lucky to have brilliant teachers at school and supervisors at university who believed in me and encouraged me so much. I absolutely wouldn’t be where I am now without them. I think it’s really inspiring to be taught by people who are so obviously passionate about the subjects they teach too.

What a great question, although I’m finding it hard to think of just one answer! There are many, many people who I admire and try to learn from every day. I am inspired by members of my family, my colleagues, my friends and many of my old teachers and lecturers. I couldn’t pick just one!
Growing up, a fictional role model for me was Captain Janeway, who is a character in Star Trek. I think the character is a great example of a woman who is a leader, a scientist, and an explorer!

Hi Olivia. At work, my role model is my mentor Dr Wendy Nicholls. We do a lot of research together and I just love how she approaches her work. She is so caring to her students, and so efficient in her research. She has really helped me build my confidence over the years, and I aspire to be the kind of researcher and lecturer that she is. 🙂
