• Question: What would you say motivates you to do research into mental health, but also would you say there is anything that deters you from doing it?

Hi LexiW, good question! I think research can help improve services/develop new treatments, so therefore help lots of people (if you can prove that a new treatment/guideline will help people) – whereas arguably if I worked as a therapist I can only help one person at a time.

Research can sometimes be a bit removed from people though, sometimes it may involve doing online surveys or looking at the literature – so you might not have much contact with people who use mental health services or have mental health difficulties! Ideally I think I would actually like a bit of both – work clinically as well as in research, so I get the best of both worlds 🙂
