For my PhD I’m looking at a compound called resveratrol (which is found in grapes and wine) and the effect taking that can have on a lot of different things including: cognitive performance, blood flow in your brain, gut bacteria, inflammation, blood pressure and more! Although other researchers have looked at some of these things before, my study is the first to do it all at once. So what I’d love to see is a relationship between each of these factors – for example it would be great to see specific changes in gut bacteria, alongside improvements in blood flow and cognitive performance. I’m still analysing my data at the moment, but hopefully I’ll find something exciting like that.
My PhD is classed as ‘multi-disciplinary’ as I have supervisors in two departments: Applied sciences (Biology) and Psychology. So it would be great to run similar studies in the future but using other food interventions.
As part of my PhD, I’m designing a blog intervention to enhance the levels of resilience among vulnerable adolescents. I hope to discover the most engaging and scientific way to enhance mental health through digital spaces.
