Hiya Joe – I’m not sure why you asked me this (it’s not really my area, unfortunately!) The link between the brain and the immune system is a really hot topic in neuroscience: for a long time researchers didn’t think the two systems talked to each other. Turns out they chat away quite happily, and in the last five years lots of really cool research has been done on what is now called the ‘gut-brain axis’, providing links between the brain and gut issues (like irritable bowel), but also gut influences on brain issues (like depression). But I don’t think this really answers your question, so why not have a wee look at the following article from 2015, even if it doesn’t directly address your question, either! I hope one of the other psychologists may be more help! https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/your-immune-system-is-made-not-born/
