Hi Kirsten. I have found lockdown really hard. The uncertainty can be really upsetting. It’s been very difficult to home school and keep up with work at the same time, so I’ve had to work lots of late nights. I am also studying to be a breastfeeding supporter at the moment so have had to make time to study. I love planning and I try to make sure I schedule my time in my diary so I feel more in control. I schedule time to do my crafts (e.g. sewing clothes) and I make sure I still keep in contact with friends. We do lots of board game nights and quizzes over Zoom. I’d say the main thing is to keep talking to people though. I talk to my husband about my worries and just talking through it all helps. 🙂
I live on my own (with my dog!) and so it can be lonely at times, so I make a point of having a chat with a friend a few times a week and talking to my family when I can, they live in Ireland. I also spend a lot of time talking to my dog, he’s like a little therapist but doesn’t charge by the hour! I ensure I get outside every day when it is light for a walk, and thankfully this is getting easier now we are approaching summer and it is lighter for longer in the evenings. I have accepted I probably won’t be as productive as I am normally, as I find the buzz of an office and talking with colleagues and students quite inspiring, and so my motivation has faded a bit, but that is fine, and I give myself permission to work when I feel like working and not be mad at myself when I don’t. I try to tick off one or two things each day so I feel productive, and I have been signing up to do fun things like this that I might normally not have time for when I am working in the office.
