Yes, almost all the time! One of the things I have learnt is that experiments tend to not work so well the first time round and there are a lot of changes you can make before you want to collect data. So, we do something called “piloting” where we test the experiment with a small group of people to see whether the experiment works/runs smoothly (hopefully the experiment does not break), to see whether people can understand the experiment (if they don’t we can update and edit the experiment) and also to see what kind of data we get (are the results what we are expecting?). If things don’t work the first time round it’s okay and you can always try again and normally you get something much better than what you begin with 🙂
