  The question of creating diamonds is much more interesting, as diamond is made up of carbon. Burn diamond in oxygen and you just get carbon dioxide. Gold is made up of gold – so you just have to mine gold ore and purify to get gold metal. There are ways to create diamonds from carbon – such as using very high temperature and pressure – and it’s amazing that there are natural conditions that also created diamonds.
