Hi Denisa,
No, a volcano is not hot all around. It is hot if it is erupting – the rocks, ash and gas coming out of the volcano are very hot, up to 1200 degrees celcius. If there is gas leaking out of the volcano – like the gas behing me in the photo of me wearing a gas mask – then that is also hot, a few hundred deg C.
Sometimes, it takes a very long time for the rocks to cool down after they have erupted, sometimes many years, up to 50 years or more.
AT some volcanoes, water comes out of the ground that has been warmed up by the hot rocks under the ground. These hot springs are lovely places to swim or sit around in!
In many places though, you wouldn’t know if you were on a volcano. You could play or sit on the ground and it would feel no different to your back garden.
