• Question: why does skin go red if you slap it ?

      The slap causes a rush of blood to the upper layers of blood vessels (capillaries) just under the skin as a defence mechanism in case there is any injury. The blood carries clotting factors and white cells to start the healing process if it is needed. Depending on how hard the slap is, some of the capillaries can break so the redness lasts longer or even turns into a bruise.
