Well calpol (and other nice tasting medicines) taste nice because we add flavours to them (kind of like flavourings in Frootshoot). The ones that don’t taste so good have little or no added flavourings. Adult medicines are flavoured less because they should know that the medicine is doing good no matter the flavour. Young children and infants need encouraging to take the medicine so we add artificial flavours.
The flavour chemicals (artificial flavours, E-numbers etc) can’t be built into the medicine because the chemistry will be totally changed and the medicine won’t work.
