No. The only time I was in the room while something was set on fire by accident was when my brother once set fire to something. I was so absorbed in the book I was reading that I didn’t even notice. Good thing my parents did.
Yes, I tried to bake a cake. I simply turned on the oven and the cake caught fire. I called 911, but they put me on hold, so I hung up. I heard that you’re not to throw water on an electrical fire, so I threw flour all over the kitchen. Quite a mess.
I’ve not set fire to anything in my lab (knock on wood!).
I’ve just remembered the story of a chemist, Alfie Maddock. He worked on radioactive chemistry, starting back in the late 1930’s. Apparently he was in a government lab in Canada during the second world war, and managed to spill the entire UK supply of plutonium onto the lab bench. He couldn’t think of any other way to get it back, so he sawed out that part of the bench, burnt off the wood, and manged to recover almost all of it..
