      Hello Beki & Eliza,

Gaining my PhD – it was hard because there was no funding for the research idea I had, which was to take the Turing test out of philosophy. This is where it had been mostly since Turing came up with and published his ideas after the second world war and his codebreaking at Bletchley Park, and when he died in 1954.

The hard thing was working part-time while doing the PhD part-time and believing that practical Turing tests would help to better investigate the intellectual capacity of machines. I was motivated enough to want to complete the PhD. Sometimes you make sacrifices for what you believe in.
