      Hello Jonny Lyon,

A PhD is a higher degree, not a role as such unless you’re a PhD candidate undertaking research towards this qualification. I know of higher doctorates awarded to senior professors for high impact research. And of course there are lots of awards, I guess the highest are the Nobel Prizes, and the ACM Turing award in computing.

Hope you’re interested in researching towards a PhD 🙂

      Hi Jonny,

Once someone gets a PhD, they have ‘Dr.’ before their name, but after that they can become a ‘Post-doctoral researcher’, which is basically a funded position to continue research. After that, one of the highest positions is to become a Professor!

      Peter
