Question: What kind of Mathematics do you study?

I have to know a lot of different kinds of mathematics, but the main kind that I study is called ‘numerical partial differential equations’. What it means is I solve a certain type of equation using supercomputers. We have to use computers because the equations are too complicated otherwise.

The solutions to these equations make predictions about science questions. Sometimes they enable you to find things out in situations where you can’t do a real-life experiment. (Like predicting what the weather will be like – the only experiment you can do there is to just wait!)
