Yes, science does affect my personal life but in a really good way. I manage my own working time meaning I don’t miss my childrens school events and can pick them up from school etc. It also gives me the opportunity to travel to different countries for research and I’m very lucky that I can bring my family with me so it’s a bit like they get a little holiday whilst I work (as long as it’s not during school time).
It also helps me to think about different ways I can approach situations at home because my brain has kind of trained itself to think of lots of different ways to solve a problem…which is great when my children are annoying each other and arguing ha ha.
It also helps you to be a critical thinker, and not accept things just because. So, for example, if I have to choose a school or university and I read that such school/university is good, I will ask who is saying so, why are they saying it and what evidence do they have that that is indeed a good school/uni and I will also check myself, attend an open day to see whether I agree with that.
