Great question! Conventional plastics are typically made using chemistry which gives very strong and stable molecules. This is very useful for plastic applications where they need to be resistant to the intense forces of their every day life. But it also means that at the end of its life, the molecules are stuck as they are and cannot be broken down into anything else
