I studied science at GCSE and then biology, chemistry and maths for A-level which qualified me onto a chemistry course at University. The maths and biology weren’t requirements but they helped with my application and also my understanding later on in the course.

At Standard Grade (which is the Scottish equivalent of GCSE) I did English, maths, chemistry, biology, physics, tech studies, German and history. At Higher (sort of A-Level) I carried on English, maths, chemistry, human biology and history.
That meant I could get into my first choice at university, which was a masters degree in forensic and analytical chemistry. When I graduated I was able to start looking for a job.
