• Question: what is the best book you have ever read

      It’s very hard to pick a favourite book – imagine asking a parent to choose between their children. I gave a recommended list of books to a student I mentor before the summer and it covered fiction, drama, history, politics, law and science.
      I would say, don’t get too bogged down in one ‘favourite’ and instead read as much as you like, on whatever subjects appeal to you.

      For me, probably Crow Road by Iain Banks. It is so wonderfully written. I also read Time Traveller’s Wife last year which had me in floods of tears because it’s so beautiful so probably one of those
