I specialise in a family of plastics called PAEKs (PolyArylEtherKetones…bit of a mouthful) which are very light, strong and hard for other chemicals to damage. They cost a lot of money, so are used to make parts in aeroplanes, cars or machines, and we also have a department that makes medical implants (plates for broken bones and so on).
My job is to help the lab guys take things they’ve invented and make sure that they’ve worked out the recipe correctly so the factory can make it easily.
