      Yes, they can do! In research, you are trying things which haven’t been done before which means unpredictable things can happen. But we do get to work together in teams to try to work out why. Sometimes a failed experiment can help you solve a problem or come up with a new idea. A lot of the best inventions have been made by mistake

      The answer is definitely yes 🙂

      Learning the required techniques to perform experiments require time and practice. Adjustments are often required during the process to achieve a good experiment.

      Definitely! Sometimes it’s because something has broken, or been done wrong (not the right temperature, recipe or something like that), sometimes it’s because you’ve just made a mistake (weighed something out wrong, set up a bit of kit the wrong way) and sometimes you don’t know why.
      If you’ve done everything right and the experiment still hasn’t worked then that’s important – you know that whatever you were trying to do is the wrong answer. You need to go back to the drawing board and re-think your ideas. Then you can come back and try some new experiments with your new ideas.
