      Hi there,

      Thanks for your question! I’d say the summer placements I undertaken during my Bachelor degree where a great introduction into the lab and the work that happens in there. It really helps with the interviews if you’d choose to go for a PhD that involves working in the lab.

      The BDC (biorenewables development company) wasn’t directly related to the work of my PhD. However it gave me the chance to get to use machines that will be used in the future to mash up the plants and release the sugars that are found inside them. Although there was no working with bacteria during this placement, but valuable experience in what happens before you feed bacteria with the processed plants. I’d say placements are a great way to get yourself introduced to a sector you might be interested of getting employed in the future.
