Anything that draws your eye. If you are on about fiction books for fun, you can go into any of the book shops and read a few pages to see if you will like it. There are usually chairs in there too. They will love that you are in there so don’t be shy to go to book stores and find out what you like first. These books depend on what you are interested in. Its also great to go to charity shops because they always have hundreds of books and they are all like 50p! My favourite books when I was younger were the Harry Potter books, Terry Pratchett books and Michael Morpurgo books. They were always lovely, easy and inspiring. I also love the David Attenborough books too, full of interesting stories and facts (especially ‘The Secret Life of Plants’- that one is great). If you would like science related books the best thing to do is go to a local library and see what books are available. Usually theres some of the most popular books and they also change the books they stock every month so that you will never be out of books. Enjoy reading, its a really great way to learn!

Anything you like, I am firm believer that any type of reading is good! When I was younger my parents told me off for staying up all night to read books, but it was worth it. Like Anna I loved Terry Pratchett and Harry Potter when I was growing up and I would also agree with her that you should just see what interests you. But if you want more suggestions in terms of fiction I would also recommend Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman – there’s also a TV series of that coming out on the BBC later this year. It’s all about a magical world that’s a bit like ours but people walk about with animal friends that are like their souls.

For science books it depends what you’re interested in. If you’re interested in nature then I always liked books like Mysteries & Marvels of Nature and The Animal Atlas – these books are still around today. They’re just a load of great facts about nature. If you’re more interested in the big ideas and how science works then The Magic of Reality by Richard Dawkins is really good. If you’re more interested in technology and physics then The Way Things Work by David Macaulay is an amazing book and fun to read with loads of good pictures. But if you were to go into a book shop or library I’m sure any of the staff there would be happy to help you with suggestions, people who like books always love talking to other people about it!

That’s a great question. Often it’s hard to know what books you should read. I could say the classics like The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins, or Y Descent of Men by Steve Jones. These books are great but they can be dry reading. I think it is more important to find books that you enjoy and which inspire you. Fun and interesting books I would recommend would be:
The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and Other Clinical Tales by Oliver Sacks
Invisible Women: Exposing data bias in a world designed for men by Caroline Criado Pérez
This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor by Adam Kay
      Bad Science by Ben Goldacre
