That’s a difficult question. I have worked in a lot of different areas of science, from making new treatments for the flu, to checking that food and medicine does not have bacteria on it that will make us sick. I have also looked at the DNA of people with cancer to help doctors find drugs that will work best for the person. I don’t think I have discovered anything like a new gene or something completely unknown, as that is pretty rare. But I have helped discover little things to better understand genetics in cancer, which will hopefully help a lot of people.
In my job right now I’m exploring ways we can make food production more sustainable and how we can find alternatives for plastic which are good for the environment.
