      A lot of sap from plants is sticky as it contains a mixture of water with vitamins, minerals, sugar and amino acids which makes it sticky. Mix sugar with water and see what you get. The plants use sap for a lot of different reasons, this can be as a method of moving these substances around the plant (phloem), but also for storage. Maple syrup is another example of plant sap that we use regularly.
