• Question: why do you think you should win the money

      Ha no idea, but I am sure whoever wins it will make good use of it for outreach events within their community. I really enjoy working with preschoolers and primary school age, and create books for them to keep at school or donated to libraries as well as doing simply investigations and experiments. Possibly my favourite outreach event was taking plant science to the Chelsea Flower Show where we won a bronze medal :).

      I’d like to use the prize money to run an event I help organise here at the John Innes Centre. For a few years now, my colleagues and I have organised a day of talks by world-leading scientists from the John Innes and other institutes nearby. These talks are given in a way that anyone can understand so that the many staff here who are not scientists can find out about the great work that happens here. We have expanded the event and invited a few local schools, but with the prize money we can make it even bigger. If I win I will make sure that all the schools involved in the Plant Zone this year will get an invitation to join the event online. It’s on Tuesday the 10th of October which is also World Mental Health Day, National Handbag Day, World Homeless Day, World Porridge Day, and Ada Lovelace Day- so put the date in your diary, and pack a handbag full of porridge.

      I would say all of these scientists deserve your vote. Although Alisons childrens book and Sams JIC events do look pretty cool !!
