      One of the most recent species of plants discovered is Astragalus bashanensis (Leguminosae), a new species from Central China at the start of 2023.

      New flowers are still being discovered all the time, in 2021 around 200 new flowers and fungi were discovered – including very cool plants such as the ghost orchid, firework flower and killer tobacco.

      Not only are recent flowers being discovered – but fossil flowers are still being discovered – this year they found the biggest flowering fossil preserved in amber – Symplocos kowalewskii.
