we’re got some huge stick insects in the insectary here at the john innes centre, some of them are 25 cm long, and they’re great. there’s lots of bigger insects in the wild, like the hercules beetle, which is a similar legnth but much wider. Not an insect, but an invertebrate the coconut crab is HUGE and pretty scary, you wouldn’t want to meet one going through your bins
I’ve seen some very large insects at the zoo, but the largest I’ve ever seen in the wild were cockroaches in Thailand. When it rains (which is does often in Thailand during monsoon season) they jump around and into the bars and restaurants, which isn’t the most fun when you’re trying to have your dinner!
